Who We Are and What We Do
Membership starts at $10 for seniors and is open to all interested people, organizations, and businesses. Contributions provide the Library with items that would not otherwise be funded: books, programs, equipment, professional training for staff, and activities for all ages from preschool story times to cooking demonstrations, movie nights, and statewide museum passes.
A signature achievement of the Friends is Bookstore Alley, a wonderful, cheerful, busy, and well-organized used bookstore amply stocked with gently used books donated by Library patrons. Our prices are low: adult hardcovers and jigsaw puzzles are $2, paperbacks are three for $1, everything else is $1 including DVDs, CDs, and children’s hardcover books. Bookstore Alley is located on the Mezzanine level of the Library and is open during all Library hours. Payment is taken at the Circulation Desk so you can shop anytime!
In addition to Bookstore Alley, the Friends hold a four-day book sale the first weekend of June where our extensive inventory is put out for sale, however, the June 2020 book sale is postponed.
We have a small, but dedicated, crew of volunteers who run the bookstore and organize our events. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact us. The Friends email is: firstname.lastname@example.org.
We rely on donations of clean books, DVDs, CDs, and jigsaw puzzles, but need these in good condition. We cannot accept any item that is damp, has mold, or has damage from smoking as these conditions can spread through our collection. Donations can be dropped off near the front desk of the library.
However, during this period while the library is closed because of Covid-19 please do not drop off any donations. Now is a good time to sort through your books and make a pile of future donations, but please do not drop off any donations until the Friends have determined it is prudent to re-open the bookstore. We will let the public know when the bookstore is up and running again. Thank you!
Friends Newsletter and Annual Appeal
Each spring, the Friends send out an appeal asking town residents to renew their yearly membership. We also send a newsletter to each resident’s home — view a recent letter here. The annual appeal is tentatively scheduled for Fall 2020.
