Friends of the Library Annual Book Sale and Garden Club Plant Sale Same Weekend!

Books and plants – a beautiful partnership! On Saturday, June 2, the Garden Club of Woodbridge and the Friends of the Woodbridge Library are pairing up. The Friends’ Annual Book Sale will be inside the Library and the Garden Club’s Plant Sale will be in the Old Firehouse Grove behind the Library.  Buy a plant, buy a book – support your Town!

The  Annual Book Sale begins Thursday evening May 31, from 5 -8 pm. Thursday is a “first choice members only” evening for Friends of the Library members featuring the entire inventory, including some special finds. You can join any time at the Circulation Desk or become a member the night of the sale. Membership starts at $10 for a senior or student, $15 for an individual, and $25 for a family.

The book sale will be open to the general public on Friday, June 1, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday June 2, 10-5 p.m. and Monday, June 4, from 12:00-5:00 .m. On Monday, to clear the inventory, a bag of books is $5. In addition, as a thank you, members of the Friends, Woodbridge town employees and teachers are invited to fill a shopping bag for free.

The Friends are also looking for volunteers (adults and teens in grade 9 and up) in the weeks leading up to the book sale and at the event. If interested, contact the Friends at 203.389.3493 or woodbridgectfriends@gmail.com.

The Garden Club of Woodbridge fifth annual Plant Sale will be from 9 a.m. to 12 noon on June 2 in the Old Firehouse Grove and we are delighted that our sale coincides for the first time with the Library Annual Book Sale. The Club decided early in its history to focus on civic beautification in the center of Woodbridge and, though our efforts have expanded, our core activities include maintaining many town gardens, including the Circle Garden at the Library, the gardens flanking the main entrance door, the Adella Baldwin Stuart Garden at the corner of Meetinghouse Lane and Center Road, and the Secret Garden outside the Woodbridge Senior Center.

In the weeks leading up to the sale, Garden Club members will be busy digging, dividing, and potting some of their favorite specimens for this event. Inventory varies every year, but typically includes perennials for shade and sun, annuals, herbs, trees, grasses, and shrubs. Members will be on hand to answer questions. Come early for the best selection of quality plants carefully nurtured by our members and proven to succeed in New England weather!

Proceeds of the sale enable the Club to carry on our nonprofit activities, including civic beautification.
