March 2010 Exhibit by: The Woodbridge Senior Center Art Class The Woodbridge Town Library is proud to present The Woodbridge Senior Center Art Class Exhibit. The talent and creativity of the artists is evident in the wide variety of artwork on display, including landscapes, still lifes, portraits and more. February 2010 Exhibit by: John O'Neil The Woodbridge Town Library is proud to present the photography of John O'Neil in our Meeting Room during the month of February. John's show is entitled Zeroing In. John worked in advertising, marketing and consulting for 30 years in significant roles for well-known and highly-regarded corporations and agencies. In 1997, he enrolled in a black & white photography class at the Silvermine School of Art. This experience led to four years of study and an ongoing love for photography. Since 2004, John has managed to combine his love of photography with his work life by assisting in the management of Milford Photo. He has degrees in Marketing and Business from Ball State University, and served in Vietnam as a field artillery officer in the Army. This exhibit is free and open to the public. January 2010 Exhibit by: Gregory Karas The Woodbridge Town Library is proud to present the art of Gregory Karas in our Meeting Room during the month of January. Gregory's show is entitled Local Color: Studio & Plein Aire Paintings. A Connecticut native, he paints in several mediums including oil, acrylic and pastels to depict landscapes and wildlife scenes. He formally trained at Paier College of Art, graduating in 1983. He is a board member of the Valley Arts Council, and is a member of both the CT Plein Aire Painters Society and the Easton Arts Council. He lives with his family in Ansonia. December 2009 Exhibit by: Rebecca Lowry The Woodbridge Town Library is proud to present the art of Rebecca Lowry in our Meeting Room during the month of December. Rebecca began painting in 2006, after returning from a year in Botswana. She currently serves as the Director of Financial Education at Innovations for Poverty Action (www.povertyaction.org), a New Haven based non-profit organization that runs rigorous evaluations of innovative solutions to poverty in the developing world. In 2005, Rebecca founded Setso Project (www.setsoproject.org), a web-based non-profit that supports intimate, personal connections for engaging donors in local issues as far away as Southern Africa. Privately funded Setso projects include transporting pediatric AIDS patients to clinics to benefit from life-sustaining medical treatment; tutoring services for school children trying to get ahead with limited resources; micro-funding for small-scale entrepreneurs; funding for Otse Village free Cine-Night productions and many more. November 2009 Exhibit by: Patty Meglio The Woodbridge Library is proud to present the art of Patty Meglio, a former resident of Woodbridge, CT and graduate of Amity Regional High School, during the month of November. Patty specializes in New England landscapes, seascapes, and still life in oil. In pursuit of a lifelong dream, she began studying painting with local artists, including Marc Antony Massaro in Branford, Terry Oakes-Bourret in Durham and Hagop Keledjian in Putney, Vermont. She is a past participant in juried competitions for the Clinton Art Society, Madison Art Society, Artwalk for the West Hartford Art League, and the Mavis Fenner Memorial for the Rowayton Arts Center, and is a winner of the Merchant's Prize at the Madison Art Show in 2007. She has exhibited in numerous venues throughout the state of Connecticut and New Hampshire. Her work is held in private collections throughout the country. She is a member of the Connecticut Plein Air Painter Society, Milford Fine Arts Council, Clinton Art Association, and the Madison Art Society. October 2009 Exhibit by: E. Gurney Fiske The Woodbridge Town Library is proud to present the art of E. Gurney Fiske. An award winning artist and photographer, Bethany resident Gurney Fiske has been a professional artist for over fifty years. He works in oils, charcoal, pastels and many other media including silkscreen printing, and airbrush. After serving with the Navy Seabees in WWII, he graduated from the Whitney School of Art. His work can be found in many private and corporate collections, from New England to the west coast. Gurney is currently a member of the Milford Fine Arts Council, the Hamden Art League, Gallery 53, The Firehouse Gallery, and the Watertown Art League. He is also a life member of the Kent Art Association, the Arts and Crafts Association of Meriden, the Cheshire Art League and the Washington Art Association. September 2009 Exhibit by: Laima Reiss The Woodbridge Town Library is proud to present the photography of Laima Reiss during the month of September. The Woodbridge Town Library is proud to present the photography of Laima Reiss during the month of September. The exhibit is presented to commemorate the Millenium anniversary of Lithuania and it's beautiful capital Vilnius. While living in Lithuania, Laima studied with the best European photographers and obtained two Master's degrees in Finance and Business Administration. She also studied at the New York Institute of Photography, and has traveled to over twenty countries throughout the world in her pursuit of photography. Laima is a member of the Valley Arts Council, and her photos have been published in Best of Photography 2006 & 2007. She has exhibited her work at many galleries locally including Derby, Seymour and Naugatuck. She is also a Vilnius 2009 Ambassador, helping to spread information about Lithuanian culture and history as the country celebrates it's 1000th anniversary. August 2009 Exhibit by: E.M.Carlson The Woodbridge Town Library is proud to present the art photography of E.M. Carlson during the month of August. Entitled Holding the Moment, the exhibit features Edith's traditional photography. Beginning with a Brownie box camera and local expeditions to NYC, Edith graduated to progressively more sophisticated equipment, making annual forays to more exotic sites to pursue her passion for photography. During her 34 year high school teaching career, photographs were regularly introduced to literature and composition classes to stimulate reading-related discussion and writing. Edith recently received an award for her photography from the Milford Fine Arts Council. Her work is part of the permanent collection of the Yale New Haven Hospital Art Collection, and many private collections in the U.S. and Europe. July 2009 Exhibit by: Marcel Garré The Woodbridge Town Library is proud to present the work of Marcel Garré during the month of July. Marcel was born in Hartford, CT of Canadian descent, and raised in Miami, FL. His formative years were spent exploring the everglades, where his love for wildlife & the beauty inherent in nature was born. His schooling included industrial arts & then training as a commercial artist. He has been creating art work all of his life and just recently has begun to exhibit publicly, focusing on horses presented in acrylics and mixed media. Marcel paints powerful yet detailed works that combine a photographic element with a larger, textural component. Most of his pieces are at minimum three feet high and created on cement board that supports the three-dimensional elements. Prior to painting full-time, Marcel was a builder/craftsman, skilled in custom projects where he had creative license to design & build. He enjoys gardening, tennis, cooking & tending to his horse, dogs, and chickens. Marcel is currently exhibiting his work in the Fine Line Art Gallery in Woodbury. June 2009 Exhibit by: Heming Jiang The Woodbridge Town Library is proud to present the work of Heming Jiang during the month of June. A resident of Beacon Falls, Heming works primarily with photography and fine art prints of landscapes and nature. Though he has no formal art training, he uses his background and education in engineering and social sciences as a foundation for his art. He took up photography in 2000, and is now the president of the Naugatuck Valley Photo Club. Heming is also a member of the Valley Arts Council, and has previously exhibited his work at the Trumbull Town Hall. This exhibit is free and open to the public - all are invited to visit. The NAHS was established to inspire and recognize students in grades 10-12 who demonstrate outstanding artistic abilities. April 2009 Exhibit by: Students of the Palette Art Studio The Woodbridge Town Library is pleased to present an exhibition of the works of students of the Palette Art Studio in Cheshire, Connecticut. The students' art work represents a variety of techniques, media, and content. The artists created their works with oil, watercolor, gouache, tempera, pencil, and ink, and include still life, portraits, compositions and landscapes. The young artists' teachers, Natasha Piskunova and Vitaliy Romanenko, received their training in classical and contemporary Russian schools of painting and drawing. Ms. Piskunova draws on her past experience as a teacher of artistically-gifted children in St. Petersburg while working with her American students. She established the Palette Art Studio in 1997 with the intention of using both innovative and traditional teaching methodologies. Mr. Romanenko is an illustrator and art director, and served for many years as a professor of the State Academy of Art and Design in St. Petersburg, Russia. | Back to Top | |
