March & April 2012 Exhibit by: Students of the Palette Art Studio

The Woodbridge Town Library is pleased to present an exhibition of the works of students of the Palette Art Studio in Cheshire, Connecticut. Their work represents a variety of technique, media, and content. The artists used materials such as oil, watercolor, gouache, tempera, pencil, and ink to create still lifes, portraits, landscapes, and more. The participating artists range in age from five years old to adulthood.

Palette Art Studio was founded in Cheshire, Connecticut, in 1997, by artist and teacher Natasha Piskunova. Trained in Russian schools of classical and contemporary painting and drawing, Mrs. Piskunova draws on her experience as a teacher of artistically-gifted children in St. Petersburg. Her studio employs both innovative and traditional teaching methods. Students are systematically introduced to the fundamental concepts and skills of painting and drawing. They learn to understand and manipulate structure, form, and color, while utilizing a broad range of mediums and techniques. At Palette Art Studio, personal artistic expression and growth is encouraged, and students enjoy the process of creation. Teaching methods are flexible and individualized, so that each student can thrive in a dynamic and exciting setting. To learn more about the Palette Art Studio, please visit their website at www.paletteartstudio.com.

This exhibit is free and open to the public. All are welcome to visit.

February 2012 Exhibit by: Kiki Michalek

The Woodbridge Town Library is proud to present the art of Kiki Michalek during the month of February. The exhibit features her collection of children's illustrations. Kiki Michalek has worked as a freelance artist in Connecticut for over 25 years. She is a self taught artist working with acrylic, watercolor, airbrush, colored pencil and graphite. Since childhood she is rarely without her sketch book and camera to record details of her explorations. She specializes in animal and automotive art. Her love of nature is a dominant factor in her work. Kiki works in both realistic and whimsical styles, often adding hidden details and a touch of humor to her paintings. She works on canvas, wood, automobiles, furniture and textiles in any size ranging from miniature paintings on ornaments and trinket boxes to larger than life murals in residential and commercial buildings.

As an advocate for animal rescue, Kiki uses her art as a tool to educate others on the well being of animals. She also encourages visitors to her shows to bring their children, recognizing the positive effect that it has on an aspiring artist. For more information, contact the artist through her website at www.airbornecreations.com or visit her Facebook page by clicking here. This exhibit is free and open to the public. January 2012 Exhibit by: Patty Meglio

The Woodbridge Library is proud to present the art of Patty Meglio during the month of January. Patty Meglio was born and raised in Orange, Connecticut. She attended design school in Boston, Massachusetts and later moved to Houston, Texas where she lived and worked for twenty-two years. She moved back to CT in 2000 and currently resides in Northford, Connecticut.

In pursuit of a lifelong dream, Patty began taking drawing and painting lessons in the late 90s, and in 2003, she began studying painting with local artists, including Marc Antony Massaro in Branford, CT, Terry Oakes-Bourret in Durham, CT, and Hagop Keledjian in Putney, Vermont. She paints mostly in oil on canvas or linen that she carefully prepares herself. Patty's work is modern impressionist style, mostly depicting country landscapes, seascapes, and still life.

Her inspiration stems from twentieth century impressionist art, including works by Sargent, Sorolla, de Lazlo, and Boldini, and modern artists including Schmid, Handell, Guzik, and Liberace. She draws her inspirations, as they did, from early twentieth-century architecture, the art deco and Greek classical styles of urban buildings, weather worn barns and open pastures of the country farms, and rocky and sandy beaches lined with classic New England cottages.

Patty is a past participant in juried competitions for the Clinton Art Society, Madison Art Society, Artwalk for the West Hartford Art League, and the Mavis Fenner Memorial for the Rowayton Arts Center, and is a winner of the Merchant's Prize at the Madison Art Show in 2007. She has exhibited in numerous venues throughout the state of Connecticut and New Hampshire. Her work is held in private collections throughout the country. She is a member of the Milford Fine Arts Council, Clinton Art Association, and the Madison Art Society. For more information, visit her website at www.pattymegliostudio.com or her blog at www.pennpaint.blogspot.com. This exhibit is free and open to the public. All are welcome to visit.
