BOOK DISCUSSION with Mark Schenker
Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf
Thursday, March 18, 2010 @ 7:00 pm

Join us for our new Book Discussion Series entitled Classic Novels, Re-envisioned. Our favorite literary expert, Yale Associate Dean Mark Schenker, returns to lead us through this fascinating four-part discussion series.

Join us in reading (or re-reading) and discussing four novels: Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys, Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf, and The Hours by Michael Cunningham.

In each case, a classic British novel - one from the 19th century, the other from the early 20th century - is artistically reconsidered by another novelist: one the West Indian Jean Rhys, whose Wide Sargasso Sea is a "prequel" to Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre; the other, the American Michael Cunningham, whose The Hours extends and re-imagines both Woolf's novel and its titular heroine.

Part 3 of the series will focus on Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf. This is a free program, and all are welcome to join. Add your voice to our lively discussion! Registration is required. Copies of all works will be provided to registered participants. To register or for more information: please call 389-3433, stop by our Circulation Desk, or email pvalsecchi@ci.woodbridge.ct.us.
